Empire Falls; Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

In the past few weeks, I read Richard Russo's Empire Falls. The author is talented in creating real life characters and exploring their inner depths in a localized town past its prime. Many times, I could find myself identifying with some of the players in this story. Russo makes these characters so real that one wants to go and meet them in person.

Last night, I watched on DVD: Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. It's not a bad movie; but I loved the books so much better where the imagination could run so much more freely. And Aslan the lion in the movie did not seem so awe inspiring as in the book.

At different time periods in my life I have been involved in researching local Mennonite history and family history. Through this, I had gotten to know a Robert Ulle who when he died was working on a project to identify Mennonite genealogical connections between Pennsylvanian and Canadian Mennonite families. Due to his health condition and death, the project and publication never got off the ground. This one book I would have loved to see published.

I don't know if I have any such book. There are books that I believe have had too much negative effects in our world. Yet I believe so much in freedom of expression for all.
